What is the difference between Anne Moss and other speakers on mental health and suicide?

Anne Moss is a suicide loss survivor turned expert so she has the rare combination of lived experience and expertise. She has been speaking and training on the topic of youth mental health since 2010. Her son Charles lived with depression and anxiety and ultimately became addicted to heroin and took his life in 2015. She didn’t speak on these topics until she spoke with thousands of those who struggled with thoughts of suicide or had past attempts and she has taken and continues to take hundreds of hours of training. She has practical examples and effective solutions that can be implemented right away, and her audiences always watch with rapt attention.  Her training includes:

Does talking about suicide give people the idea?

The answer to that is no. Talking about suicide doesn’t give someone the idea which has been the outcome of multiple studies.

However, we do know that being exposed to the suicide of another can increase the risk of family, friends, and community members. That phenomenon is known as cohort suicide. That’s why good postvention (after a suicide) is so important for suicide prevention.

Does Anne Moss address topics other than suicide?

Yes. She speaks on coping strategies (DBT skills) and preventing people and youth from getting to crisis, anxiety, depression, addiction, substance abuse, mental health, and mental health stigma. Her goal is to always deliver a message of hope and healing. As someone who owned a digital marketing company for 7 years, she also has a lot of expertise in digital media including social media and search engines (google).

What are people saying about Anne Moss?

Good luck dozing off or pseudo-listening to Anne Moss, as she will grab you “right in the feels “ as the expression goes. Even officers who’d been up all night couldn’t avert their focus to her dynamic ability to connect. We all learned so much from her, and she puts it all on the line.  If you want a keynote speaker or someone to connect with you on a visceral level, Mrs. Anne Moss Rogers is who you want.

This presentation was a very personal and engaging approach to a difficult subject. Suicide has touched Dominion recently, and the presentation helped me to understand how others might be feeling as well as how to identify and approach the topic with others. I also found the material extremely helpful as a parent.

Dominion Energy Employee, Topic: The Emotionally Naked Truth About Suicide

Anne Moss Rogers is probably the most resilient person I know. She has managed to turn grief into action and she is a suicide prevention champion. I had the pleasure of presenting with her at the Pediatric Academic Societies conference and her part was absolutely the best. She received a standing ovation from the audience. I have been to this conference for two decades and I have never seen any speaker receive a standing ovation.

About Anne Moss Rogers

Anne Moss is an Emotionally Naked® motivational mental health speaker who captures hearts and fills them with hope.

Anne Moss is her first name. It’s a southern thing. Despite her family’s best efforts, Anne Moss’s 20-year-old younger son Charles died by suicide on June 5, 2015, after years of struggle with anxiety, depression, and ultimately addiction. Anne Moss started a blog, EmotionallyNaked.com, that has reached millions and chronicled her family’s tragedy in a newspaper article that went viral.  After receiving a message from a young lady named Lauren who wrote that one of her blog posts save her life, Anne Moss sold her digital marketing business and followed her purpose and passion of speaking and educating on mental health topics including suicide, addiction, mental health, and grief.

She has been featured in the New York Times and was the first suicide loss survivor ever invited to speak at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).  Originally from North Carolina, she is a UNC-Chapel Hill alumna and lives in Richmond, Virginia, with her husband, Randy. They raised two sons, the late Charles Aubrey, 20, and Richard, a filmmaker living his dream in LA.

Anne Moss is the author of two books, the award-winning memoir, Diary of a Broken Mind and the amazon bestseller Emotionally Naked: A Teacher’s Guide to Preventing Suicide and Recognizing Students at Risk with co-writer Kim O’Brien Ph.D., LICSW. She currently lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband, Randy.
